Figures obtained by the BBC have shown that, in the last year, three or more complaints were received by at least 2,000 police officers in the UK.
The statistics show that more than 5,000 complaints were made against officers in 2009-10. The results are from 43 out of 52 UK forces.
Northern Ireland, West Mercia and Lincolnshire were found to be the forces with the most multiple complaints per officer.
Many cases are unsubstantiated, according to the Police Federation, which represents 140,000 officers in England and Wales. |
