Sales increase for John Lewis

Sales at John  Lewis, the department store chain, increased last week by 10.5% to £51.4m.

Feedback has shown that shoppers were buying into the latest fashion trends. Selling operations director of Region B, David Barford, said: “Shops reported a real hunger from customers for all things new. Customers were keen to see the new Autumn trends and colours.”

John Lewis reported 12% increase in home sales on last year with fitted furniture, furnishing fabrics and home accessories dominating sales, and upholstery, beds, bedroom furniture and lighting products also performing strongly.

Online sales saw the biggest increase, with sales rising by 34%.

Barford concluded: “Overall, a splendid week’s trade - looking forward to a good back-to-school and a great bank holiday.”
